Golden Castle Resort
The village of Pachar lies in the Shekhawati region and was gifted to Thakur Guman Singh by the Maharaja of Jaipur for his velour in protecting the state against the Raja of Bharatpur. Surrounded, interestingly enough, by a lake on one side and sand dunes on the other, Panchar is a traditional village with agriculture as its main occupation. The fort of Pachar was built in the late 18th century and the adjoining Golden Castle Resort is a later edifice. Originally a court, it was given its present shape by successive Thakur of Pachar. The descendants of Guman Singh have now opened their castle for tourists. This building resembles a European country mansion and has spacious lawns and swimming pool. The castle has interesting chambers like the Diwan-e-Khas (dinning-hall) and the Rang Mahal (lobby) with its collection of old family portraits, paintings and arched doorways. The bedrooms are large and traditional style of decor has been maintained throughout. Also of interest is the Jain temple with its intricate gold and mirror work.
Special features: Boating and angling in the Ganpat lake, bird-watching during winter, excursions to the temple of Kathu shamji and nearby villages of Shekawati for local crafts, folk dances, camel and jeep safaris can be arranged.
Facilities available: 9 suites, 5 double and 2 single rooms with attached bathrooms, coffee parlour, and conference arrangements. Rajasthani cuisine is available.
